Shifters #6

The unscrupulous new Council chair has charged Jace, Marc, and me with trespassing, kidnapping, murder, and treason. Yeah, we’ve been busy. But now it’s time to take justice into our own hands. We must avenge my brother’s death and carve out the rot at the heart of the Council.
It’s not going to be easy, and loss seems unavoidable, but I have promised to protect my Pride, no matter what. With a target on my back and Marc at my side, I’m heading for a final showdown that can—that will—change everything forever.

This book picks up almost right after the ending of the last book, with Malone still on his crusade to overthrow Greg Sander's authority and take the Head Council Chair for himself. This issue as well as all of the other conflicts from the prior books finally have come to a head, and no one will escape unaffected or unscathed. The South Central pride knows that no matter the outcome, the entire werecat's world will be forever changed. Even with this heavy knowledge on their shoulder's they know they must fight for what is right for they have an incredible amount to lose. There are battles around every corner, with severe consequences at each turn. In the end it will come to one last stand, with one side taking all.

Anyone who had complaints about Faythe being whiny or spoiled in the past will really be impressed at how she steps up to the plate. Gone is the Faythe that acts out to get what she wants. The standards she has set for herself in protecting her pride are so high, they almost seem unobtainable. There is so much heartache in this book, and I cannot begin to count the number of times I cried right along with Faythe. I am actually amazed at her ability to even attempt to survive any of it, let alone be the strong force her pride needs her to be. Trust me, you will be thoroughly impressed and proud of the woman she has finally become.

Ah, the love triangle between Faythe, Marc, and Jace. I'm going to be careful to not spoil anything. However, I will say be prepared to shed a lot of tears no matter who you are rooting for as there are absolutely heartbreaking moments for each of them. I will be honest, and confess I was so worried about Faythe's decision that I read the book so fast just to find out her choice, that I couldn't completely appreciate it. So how did I remedy this? I immediately re-read it. I read it much slower the second time so I could really enjoy it. After knowing her choice, I actually enjoyed the second read even more. I was able to relax and take a step back and really absorb the book.

As impatient as I was to finally have this book in my hands, the satisfaction is bittersweet. I am so sad to say goodbye to Faythe, but I really do not think the book could have ended the series more perfectly. The entire series has been one heck of a roller coaster ride, with incredible twists, turns, and loops. However, the satisfaction in the end is worth every single nail biting, heart wrenching, emotional moment. This is a series that will just stick with you long after you finish it. Every emotion is so real, you cannot help but feel them right along with Faythe. This was one of the most emotional books I have ever read, yet I loved every single moment of it. Avid fans will not be disappointed, and if you haven't checked this series out already, make sure you do, as it it truly amazing!
